DIY Fall Porch Planter

I've been wanting to dress up our front steps a little more, but we're limited on space. There's an odd notch right next to the steps that is just concrete, so I decided to add a planter.

Most of the planters I found online seemed way to pricey - so I DIY'd it!

A quick trip to Home Depot yielded a planter, pot, and a beautiful mum that's ready to bloom!

The first thing I noticed about the planter was that it was exceptionally deep - a single mum would fall right through; and it seemed a waste to try to fill it with dirt. The additional pot fits perfectly right on top of the planter.

The only remaining issue with the pot was the lack of drainage holes. Given the amount of rain we have been receiving in CT recently, I didn't want to drown the mum. So I drilled some holes in the bottom to all any additional water to drain out of the bottom.

To prevent the planter from tipping over from wind, I added an old concrete block that we had in our garage. This bag of concrete had previously been wet and hardened in the bag - making it a perfect weight!

Assembly was easy, and made for a perfect new decoration to the front of our house!
